Planning restrooms for a beach wedding on the Gulf Coast
Beach wedding restrooms take more planning than a backyard party. Sand, county paperwork and summer heat all change which units work and where they can stand.
Can a porta potty sit on the sand at a beach wedding?
A porta potty can sit on the sand. We level each unit on a pad and stake it against the wind. The catch is truck access: our truck must park on firm ground within about 25 feet. Most beach wedding units sit at the edge of the sand, near the road or a parking lot.
Harrison County keeps 26 miles of sand beach. Much of it runs beside the beach highway, which helps. Pick a spot near a beach access point and a few steps from the ceremony.
Restroom trailers are different. A trailer needs a level spot, a 110V outlet and a garden hose, so it almost always parks on firm ground off the sand. See the placement guide for gate widths and slopes.
What does Harrison County ask for a beach wedding?
Harrison County runs its own beach event application. The Beach Event form costs $25, is not refundable, and needs a Sheriff's signature and county approval. The form asks your guest count and crowd-control plan. It does not mention restrooms, so confirm unit placement with the Sand Beach Department.
The Harrison County Sand Beach Department keeps office hours on weekdays. Call them before you book units so the spot you pick is one they accept.
City rules can stack on top of the county form. Biloxi and Pass Christian each have their own event process. The event permit restroom guide lists lead times by city.
Should you rent a restroom trailer or deluxe units for a beach wedding?
Rent a restroom trailer when a venue or nearby lot has a 110V outlet within about 100 feet and a hose bib. Choose deluxe flushing units with sinks when the site has no power or water. A 100-guest, 5-hour reception with a bar needs about 4 units.
| Question | Restroom trailer | Deluxe flushing unit |
|---|---|---|
| Needs power? | 110V, 20-amp outlet within about 100 ft | No |
| Needs water? | Garden hose, or we bring a fresh-water tank | No (we fill the sink tank) |
| Can sit near sand? | Firm, level ground only | Yes, on a leveling pad |
| Comfort in heat | A/C, lights, mirrors, flushing china toilets | Shade helps; translucent roof |
| Book ahead | 3–4 weeks | 1–2 weeks on wedding weekends |
The 4-unit example uses 1 unit per 40 guests for 4–8 hours, plus 1 for the bar. Make at least 1 of them a wheelchair-accessible unit. Compare trailer sizes on the restroom trailer page or the flush units on the deluxe flushing unit page.

How do you keep wedding guests comfortable in Gulf Coast heat?
Plan for heat from May through September, when July highs average about 90°F. A restroom trailer's A/C solves most of it. With porta potties, face doors away from the afternoon sun and add 1 hand-wash station per 4 toilets when food is served. A long reception may need a mid-event service visit.
Think about evening, too. Many beach receptions run past sunset. A restroom trailer has its own lighting. Porta potties have a translucent roof that helps by day, so plan path lights for guests after dark.
Shade matters as much as the unit. A row of palms or the side of a building keeps a unit cooler. Event units arrive the day before, sanitized and stocked with paper, sanitizer and deodorizer.
What is a good restroom timeline for a beach wedding?
Start 6 to 8 weeks out with the county form and venue power check. Book a restroom trailer 3–4 weeks ahead, or porta potties 1–2 weeks ahead on spring and fall wedding weekends. Units arrive the day before the wedding and leave the next business day.

Beach wedding restroom questions
Will the wind blow over a porta potty on the beach?
Units on windy beach sites are staked and anchored, and we level each one on a pad. Tell us how close to the water the ceremony is so we bring the right setup.
Can a restroom trailer go right on the beach sand?
A restroom trailer needs firm, level ground, power and water, so it parks on a lot or paved area next to the beach. Guests usually walk only a short way across the sand.
Does the county beach permit cover my restroom rental?
The Harrison County beach event form does not ask about restrooms. Confirm with the Sand Beach Department where units may stand before delivery day.
How much does a restroom trailer cost for a beach wedding?
A restroom trailer for a weekend typically runs about $1,200–$3,500, depending on stall count and distance. A deluxe flushing unit typically runs about $225–$325 per event. Ranges are a planning guide; the quote we send has the real total.
