Hurricane season plan for rented porta potties
A porta potty rental during hurricane season needs a plan before a storm forms. Here is how pickup, tie-down, billing and cleanup-crew units work on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
When is hurricane season, and when should porta potty renters pay attention?
Hurricane season on the Gulf Coast runs from June 1 to November 30, according to NOAA. The peak date is September 10, and most storms form between mid-August and mid-October. Any porta potty on a job site or at an event during those six months needs a storm plan.
The Coast remembers Camille in 1969 and Katrina in 2005. Both pushed storm water deep into Gulfport. In hurricane wind, a loose portable toilet is a 165 lb hazard.
The plan below is simple. It covers what we do when a storm threatens, what you do, and how units come back for cleanup.
| Time of season | What a renter should do |
|---|---|
| June–early August | Keep the gate code and site contact current with us. Note anything that blocks truck access. |
| Mid-August–mid-October | Watch the forecast. Have a cleared path to each unit so a truck can reach it fast. |
| Late October–November 30 | Storms are less common but still possible. Keep the same plan until the season ends. |
What happens to your porta potty when a named storm threatens?
When a named storm threatens the Coast, we contact every customer with units on the ground. Together we decide to pick up each unit or tie it down where it stands. Units on beachfront and low ground come first.
Here is what helps us move fast:
- Answer the call or text from our number, (228) 261-9696.
- Clear lumber, trailers and parked cars from the 25 feet between the road and each unit.
- Unlock gates or send the code again.
- Tell us if the ground is already soft. A loaded truck can sink in a wet yard.
Please do not drag or tip a unit yourself. A full holding tank is heavy and spills when tilted.
Should you pick up the unit or tie it down?
Pick up the unit when the site sits in a surge zone, near open water, or will be empty for days. Tie it down when the crew returns right after the storm and the spot is on high, firm ground. Staked and strapped units ride out wind far better than loose ones, but water can still float them.
| Your site | Usual choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Beachfront lot or low ground near water | Pick up | Surge water can float and carry a unit. |
| Inland job site on firm ground | Tie down | The crew needs the toilet the day work restarts. |
| Event scheduled during the storm window | Pick up | The event will likely move, and a unit should not sit alone. |
| Home remodel with family living on site | Tie down | The household still needs a toilet before and after landfall. |
Sand sites get extra care. Units on the beach already sit on a leveling pad with stakes. The placement and delivery prep guide explains how firm ground and truck access affect every setup.
What happens to monthly billing during a storm?
Monthly billing stays on the same 28-day cycle that started on your delivery day. To stop billing for good, call at least 2 business days before the cycle ends. If a unit is picked up before a storm and set back after, ask how the move affects your cycle when we call. Any change shows on the itemized bill.
There is no long contract on a monthly porta potty rental, so you are never locked in through a storm. Weekly service also continues on its normal day when roads are open.
Damage from normal use is on us. Damage beyond normal use, such as tipping or vandalism, falls to the renter under the rental terms. That is one more reason to pick a plan early instead of leaving a unit loose.
Have units out this season?
Call and we will note your storm plan: pick up or tie down. Mon–Sat, 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
How do you get porta potties back for cleanup crews after the storm?
After the storm passes, we bring units back to customers and cleanup crews as soon as roads are safe. Calls made by 11 a.m. can get same-day delivery in Gulfport and most of Harrison County. OSHA requires at least 1 toilet for a crew of 20 or fewer workers.
Cleanup sites fill up fast. Debris crews, roofers and tree crews all need toilets in the same week. The legal minimum is in OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51. For a 40-hour week, we suggest 1 unit per 10 workers with weekly service.
For urgent needs, start with same-day porta potty delivery. For a crew that will stay for weeks, see construction porta potty rental for counts and service schedules.
Hurricane season rental questions
Will you pick up my porta potty before a hurricane hits?
When a named storm threatens, we contact customers to either pick up units or tie them down. Pickup makes sense for beachfront and low-lying sites. Tell us early which you prefer by calling (228) 261-9696.
Who pays if a storm knocks over my unit?
Normal wear is on us. The renter is responsible for damage beyond normal use, such as tipping, fire or vandalism. Choosing pickup or tie-down before landfall is the best way to avoid a problem. Ask about your site when we call.
Can I move the porta potty somewhere safer myself?
Please leave the moving to us. A standard unit weighs about 165 lb empty, and a used holding tank spills when tilted. Clear a path and we will move or strap it.
How soon after a storm can I get units for my cleanup crew?
Units go back out as soon as roads are safe and our trucks can reach the site. In normal conditions, calls by 11 a.m. can get same-day delivery in Gulfport and most of Harrison County.
Does weekly service stop during hurricane season?
Weekly service keeps its normal day all season. If a storm closes roads, the visit happens as soon as trucks can travel again.
